Bashtini ravni dvorove
I trita bora visoki

Bolen mi Peyo lezheshe
Peyo mi mlada gidiya
Maika mu voda noseshe
Zhalno mu milno dumashe:
"Ya stani sinko da vidish,
Tvoite verni drugari.

“Tvoite verni drugari
Horoto vodyat i pitat:
‘Kuhde e Peyo da doide
Horoto da ni povede
Do lichna moma hubava,
Che mu e lika i prilika.’”

“Ne moga mamo da ida
Muka mi e mamo na surtse
Po moita purva izgora
Hubava moma gizdava
Merak ot ogun po-silno
Ot tezhka bolest po-boli”

Mama na Peyo pak duma
I tui li da te naucha
Izprati sinko svatove
Svatove s’tezhki darove
Za snaha da ya poiskash

Translation:

My dear sun
Rise, my dear sun, rise
Early on Sunday
Shine my dear sun
On our ancestral (family’s) yard
And the three tall pine trees

My sick Peyo was laying
Peyo my young man
His mother was carrying water
She mournfully said:
“Get up, son, to see
Your faithful friends.

“Your faithful friends
Are dancing the horo and they ask:
‘Where is Peyo? Come
To lead the dance for us
To a pretty girl
Who likes him.
“I cannot go, mother
Mother, the pain is in my heart
Because of my first flame,
The beautiful girl.
The fire is stronger
Than the gravest sickness.”

Peyo’s mother says, again,
“Let me teach you.
Send to the in-laws
To the in-laws, gifts
To ask for their daughter
For their daughter to come to us.”
